Desiring God: Missions, The Battle Cry of a Christian Hedonist

Mark 10:17-31

 Two questions:

1—What is our mission here at Berlin Christian Church?  To make more and better followers of Jesus Christ.

            2—What does it take to do that?  What does it take to make more and better followers of Jesus Christ?  New building? Old building? Good preaching, music, money, youth programs?  What does it take?  Maybe I should rephrase it?  Who does it take to make more and better followers of Jesus Christ?  Answer:  GOD!!!

 Today, we are going to look at three enemies of Christian Hedonism and how God combats them.  In seeing God’s work, we BCC will be encouraged to partner with God to make more and better followers of Jesus Christ.

Enemy #1:  Pride—I can do all things on my own.

God’s Repsonse:  Salvation is not about what you do, but what I have already done. (Mark 10:26-27)

Enemy #2:  Legalism—If I keep the rules, I am okay.

God’s Response:  Rules don’t save you.  I save you.

Enemy #3:  Love of Money—This money is mine.

God’s Response:  Invest in me and you will never lose your treasure. (Mark 10:28-31)

Bottom Line:  God is who we need, to make more and better followers of Jesus Christ.
