Desiring God: Prayer, The Power of the Christian Hedonist

John and -24

Prayer is for God’s glory and our enjoyment.  Prayer humbles us and shows that we are needy.  Prayer also shows that God is Almighty and wealthy.  Prayer acknowledges each other’s role.  We need God to make it through the day.  God wants to pour out blessings and provisions upon us so we can make it through the day.  A life of prayer acknowledges that God is bigger than we understand.  Prayerless people are those who think that have it all figured out.  When we admit our helplessness, then our relationship with God grows and He is glorified.

Part of the problem with prayer is that we have taken a wartime walkie-talkie and turned it into a domestic intercom.  Instead of communicating vital orders for the safety and success of the mission, we call the servant of the house for another cushion in the den.

When we are actively pursuing God and enjoying Him, it will lead us into dangerous territory.  The apostle Paul reminds us that we are in a spiritual battle (Ephesians 6).  Our two weapons are the word of God and prayer.  Prayer brings God glory and joy for us when we see Him actively involved in saving people.
